From Nick Banks
One of Nick's main interests has always been writing materials and he has childhood memories of visiting stationery shops to admire the pens and accessories.
With this interest nurtured from an early age he was keen to learn more about the subject so he read extensively, especially on the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian periods.
This was followed by a desire (and by the frustration of not being able to fully repair his own fountain pen) to learn more about the workings and mechanisms of all fountain pens and pencils, so he underwent specialist training in their restoration with the renowned expert and leading authority Arthur Twydle.
Nick learnt a lot from his time spent with Arthur and the knowledge he gained has allowed him to undertake most of the restoration work that has subsequently been presented to him. However, he is aware that with so many varied and complex fountain pen mechanisms the learning process will be an on - going one.
Nick is a long standing member of the Writing Equipment Society (www.wesonline.org.uk).
